Obituary for Gay Edith Sorrells Gay Edith Sorrells
Lexington Baptist Church Member, Rockbridge County Native Dies At Age 100

Gay Edith Sorrells, 100, of Lexington, Virginia died Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital.

Born August 21, 1917 in Rockbridge County, she was a daughter of Stanley E. Tyree and Minnie Clark Tyree.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse E. Sorrells.

Mrs. Sorrells was a member of Lexington Baptist Church, where she loved teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir.

Surviving are her children, Jo Ella Bennett and Toby F. Sorrells, both of Lexington; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, February 16 at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens by the Rev. George Warden and the Rev. Dean Staton.

Contributions may be made to the Lexington Fire Department, 708 S. Main St., Lexington, VA 24450.

Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory.
