Obituary for Gregory Lewis Deeds Gregory Lewis Deeds
Carpenter, Adventurer Was Bath County Graduate, Clifton Forge Native

Gregory Lewis Deeds, 58, of Millboro, Virginia died February 17, 2018, in Rockingham County, Virginia.

He was born in Clifton Forge to Emma Lewis Tyree Hicklin and the late Robert Livingston Deeds, Jr. on December 17, 1959.

Greg Deeds was a gifted athlete and named Best Camper at Camp Nimrod in 1968.

He played both varsity football and basketball and graduated from Bath County High School in 1978 and attended classes at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College.

He had a wide and varied work career, mostly as a carpenter. He spent a number of years on the road, living life as an adventurer. He was an efficient deer hunter, and in his youth, conquered many fishing holes. He was a dedicated fan of the Green Bay Packers.

He is survived by his mother, a daughter, Vanna Deeds of Herndon, his wife, Marta Deeds of Fairfax County and an adopted son, Herbert Montano, also of Fairfax County. He is also survived by two brothers, Creigh Deeds and Eddy Hicklin, both of Millboro; aunts, uncles, a nephew and several nieces, and a multitude of friends. He was predeceased by his father, his stepfather, Hugh Hicklin, and a nephew.

There will be a memorial service at Millboro Presbyterian Church on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 4 p.m. with Reverend John Haney officiating.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Millboro Area Rescue Squad or the Millboro Volunteer Fire Department.
