Covington Native Dies In Alexandria

Wayne Woodrow Wilson, age 73, of 1010 Tenth Street NE, Washington, D. C., died Friday, February 16, 2018 at Inova Alexandria Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia.

Wayne was born in Covington, Virginia on June 24, 1944 to the late Oscar and Beatrice White Wilson.

He served in the United States Navy and was a retired contract manager for the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission. He attended New Samaritan Baptist Church. He was an avid Washington Redskins fan and an antique dealer for 17 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Moniere "Reece" Rodriguez; a sister, Sylverine Brown; and a nephew, William Brown, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Anne Davenport Wilson of Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Waynett Wilson Richardson and husband, John of Cheltenham, MD, and Raquel Magruder of Fort Washington, MD; four grandchildren, Christopher Wayne Wilson, Zyon Magruder, Elise Magruder, and Corinna Watkins; three godchildren, Myia Harris, Michael Harris, and Toni Jones; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald L. Davenport, William Brown, Sr., and John and Frances Davenport; a number of nieces and nephews, including special niece, Cynthia Brown; a cousin, Loretha Martin, who was like a sister to Wayne; and special friends, Raymond Hunter, Vincent Jones, Peter Sam, Charlie Harris, and Claudus Jefferson.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Matthew T. Barnette and Reverend Preston Tyler officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Covington. Pallbearers will be Vincent Jones, Claudus Jefferson, Lloyd Wilson, Russell Hunter, James Smith, T. L. Dickerson, and Calvin McClinton.

The family will receive friends on Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
