Obituary for Carolyn McDonald Knighton Carolyn McDonald Knighton
First Christian Church Member Was Former Jane Colby, Halmode Employee

Mrs. Carolyn McDonald Knighton, age 92, of Covington, Virginia died Tuesday, February 20th, 2018 at Shenandoah Valley Rehabilitation Center, Buena Vista.

She was the widow of the late Tommy Haynes in 1964 and Norman H. Knighton in 1996.

Mrs. Knighton was born on December 2, 1925 in Covington, the daughter of Bernard Franklin McDonald and Helen Ruth Mowbray.

During her working career, she was employed as a seamstress at the former Jane Colby and Halmode Apparel.

Mrs. Knighton was a lifetime member of First Christian Church, where she was the former treasurer of the Faithful Workers Sunday School. She enjoyed working the elections for the Covington Electoral Board. Mrs. Knighton loved her church, family, friends, and furkins.

She is survived by one son, Barry Lee McDonald, Glasgow, Virginia; one daughter Kathy Haynes Tomlin, Lexington; one step-son, James Knighton, Clifton Forge; one step-daughter, Ruth K. Goings, Covington; one sister-in-law, Francis McDonald, Oxon Hill, Maryland; two grandchildren, Robert McDonald, Greenville, South Carolina, and Michael Clark, Roanoke; three great grandchildren, Olivia, Mary, and Alex Clark; and her faithful friend, Donald Scott.

In addition, Mrs. Knighton was preceded in death by three brothers: Earl McDonald, Leonard McDonald, and Harold "Grogan" McDonald; and one sister, Helen McDonald Jones.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018 from First Christian Church with Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Michael Clark, Robert McDonald, Brian McDonald, Chris McDonald, Dennis Davis, and Kenny Moran.

The family will receive friends Saturday at the church from noon until time of service.
