Margaret Isabell Ayers, 94, formerly of Carrington Nursing Home, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the home of her daughter, Bessie Kirby in Forest.

Margaret was born in Rockbridge County December 24, 1923, the daughter of the late John Layfette Bennington and Sissie Virginia Hostetter Bennington.

Margaret was a retired employee of Boonsboro Country Club after 20-plus years of service.

Margaret was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lackey Robert Ayers; one son, Robert Lee Ayers; and two daughters, Mary Jane Ayers and Virginia May Ayers.

Margaret is survived by four sons, Tommy Ayers and wife, Billie, Junior Ayers, Bobby Ayers and fiancee, Brittany Coleman, all of Big Island, and Donnie Ayers of Glasgow; four daughters, Margaret Thompson of Lexington, Bessie Kirby of Forest, Ann Sage and husband, Kenneth of Brookneal, and Sue Burke and husband, Ralph of Roanoke; two brothers, Rufus Bennington and Charles Bennington, both of Lexington; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, February 26 at Harrison Funeral Chapel with Rev. Lucy Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at Rapps Mill Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour before the service.
