Obituary for Thomas H. Sibold Sr. Thomas H. Sibold Sr.
Well-Known Covington Resident Dies At Age 82

Mr. Thomas Hull Sibold, Sr., age 82, of Covington, Virginia died Friday, February 23, 2018.

He was the husband of Patricia Adcox Sibold.

Mr. Sibold was born November 14, 1935 in Kerrs Creek, the son of the late Osbie Thomas Sibold and Lelia Hull Sibold.

He served his country as a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Sibold was a former employee of the former Industrial Rayon and the former Hercules, Inc and was the vice president of Hammond and Mitchell.

He was a member of Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church, where he chaired the Finance Committee. Mr. Sibold was a former member of the Covington School Board.

He also served on the PTA, Covington Recreation Board during the construction of Casey Field, Covington Board of Equalizations, Covington Industrial Development Authority, Virginia School Board Association Insurance Committee, and Covington-Alleghany County United Fund Board of Directors.

He was a candidate for Covington City Council, a member of the Covington Jaycees and worked with the Boy Scouts, serving as Cubmaster of Pack 115 and Scoutmaster of Troop 26.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Sibold is survived by a son, Thomas Hull Sibold, Jr. and wife, Debby of Covington; two daughters, Dianne Sibold Garcia and husband, Jimmy of Covington and Melody Sibold Jessee and husband, Tim of Roanoke; six grandchildren, Jessica Sibold, Rachael S. Thompson and husband, Bryan, Quincey Young and husband, Josh, Abbey Sibold, Mitchell Garcia and Isabella Jessee; great grandchildren, Jacob Thomas Holloway, Ella Grace Holloway, Penelope Thompson, Price Thompson, Hannah Sibold, Maria Rodriguez and another great grandchild on the way, Bryan Pearce Thompson; a number of step grandchildren; a number of step great grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Ann Kirkland of Lexington; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Sibold was preceded in death by a grandson, Brennan Garcia and a brother, Bud Sibold.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Russell Urban officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Graveside rites will be conducted by Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Pallbearers will be Randy Canterbury, Russell Hughes, David "B.B." Bryant, Wayne Perkins, J.B. Broughman, Bufford Brown, Orlando Clarke, Sr. and Lynn Wright. Honorary pallbearers will be John Mitchell, Danny Vest and David Crosier.

The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home and at other times at the residence of Dianne and Jimmy Garcia, 1439 S. Carolton Drive, Covington.
