Clifton Forge Native Was Vietnam Veteran, Retired WalMart Supervisor

Alvin Murle Nelson, age 67, of the Virginia Veterans Care Center, Salem, Virginia and formerly of 508 McCormick Boulevard, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Monday, February 26, 2018 at Virginia Veterans Care Center.

He was born February 10, 1951 in Clifton Forge to the late Murle and Elsie Jackson Nelson.

A veteran of the Vietnam war, Alvin served two terms of service in the United States Army as a helicopter mechanic and pilot, and was a retired supervisor for WalMart.

He was a former member of the Burnside-Carpenter Post 4299 Veterans of Foreign Wars and a Dale Earnhardt fan.

He is survived by his son, Richard Anthony Nelson of Richmond; a sister, Diane Vess and husband, Dennis of Clifton Forge; three brothers; and a nephew, Brian Mulvin and wife, Chelsea.

In keeping with his family’s wishes, his body has been cremated. A graveside memorial service will be conducted on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Millboro Christian Church Cemetery, Millboro, with Pastor Lloyd Via officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside by members of the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars of Covington.
