Great Reflections Hair Salon Employee Was Longtime First Christian Church Member

Mrs. Betty Murrelline Stone, age 84, of Covington, Virginia died Thursday, March 1, 2018 at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany, Low Moor.

She was the wife of the late Lewis Medrick "Med" Stone.

Mrs. Stone was born May 26, 1933 in Neola, WV, the daughter of the late Murrell Marion Shifflett and Ina Pearl Malcom Shifflett.

Betty found great joy in working at Great Reflections Hair Salon, where she shampooed clients, gave manicures and took appointments. She loved making jewelry and was an extremely talented flower arranger who did custom pieces for family and friends.

Betty was a longtime and faithful member of First Christian Church, who loved her church dearly. Mrs. Stone was a giving person who was a friend to everyone and loved to help others.

Mrs. Stone is survived by a daughter, Rebecca "Becky" Hutsko and husband, John of Covington; three grandchildren, Lindsay D. Lakin, Jessica A. Lakin and Tara Michelle Chen; three great grandchildren, Tyra Martin, Aliyah Martin and Cailen Lakin; a stepson, John Stone and wife, Cheryl; four stepdaughters, Linda Lacy and husband, Paul, Christy Uzzell, Mary Alice Stone and Sandra Krochta and husband, Tom; a niece, Sandy Snyder and husband, Tommy; great nephew, Chris McDonald and wife, Pam and their children, Hanna, Lauren and Kristen; numerous special and dear friends including, Lillian Ann Bostic and Teenie Kegley, and her beloved dogs, Sasha, Sophie and Chico.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Stone was preceded in death by a son, John Murrell Gordon; a sister, Margaret Ellen McDonald; and a special nephew, Garland Wayne McDonald.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2018 at First Christian Church with Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating.

Pallbearers will be Chris McDonald, John Hutsko, Tommy Snyder and Tom Krochta. The family will receive friends on Monday morning from 11:30 a.m. until time of service at the church.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Alleghany Humane Society, P. O. Box 60, Low Moor, VA 24457 or the SPCA, 1340 Baldwin Avenue NE Roanoke, VA 24012.
