Gordon Cecil Joines, age 84, of 1281 Poplar Hill Road, Lexington, Virginia died Thursday, March 8, 2018 at his residence.

He was born July 23, 1933 in Wilkes County, North Carolina to the late John Frank and Eva Johnson Joines.

He served in the United States Navy and was a retired minister in the Advent Christian denomination. He attended Community Advent Christian Church in Roanoke, and loved hunting.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ann Joines, as well as three brothers, and three sisters.

He is survived by two daughters, Debbie Ayers and husband, T. G. of Cloverdale, and Sarah Joines of Dallax, TX; two sons, Phillip Joines and Tim Joines and wife, Wanda, all of Fredericksburg; a sister, Joyce Mathis of Goldsboro, NC; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Joines, Jillian Gattis, Jacob Joines and wife, Megan, Caleb Joines and wife, Jaylene, Jennie Parker and husband, Seth, Destin Joines, and Logan Joines; four great grandchildren, Landon, Christian, Cullen, and Heidi; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Monday evening, March 12, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Advent Christian Church, 4512 Old Mountain Road in Roanoke with Mr. T. G. Ayers officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday evening following the service at the church. Interment will be made in Rockbridge Memorial Gardens in Lexington on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 12:00 p.m.
