Grace Episcopal Church Member Dies At Age 96

Barbara W. Yewell of Lexington, Virginia, formerly of Greenville, Pa., Sharon, Pa., and Stuart, Fla., passed away Friday, March 30, 2018, two months shy of her 97th birthday.

She was born June 1, 1921, in Greenville, Pa., to Helen Graul and Ray C. Wasser.

After graduating from Thiel College in Greenville, she taught in the public schools and then opened her own private kindergarten. On August 11, 1949, she married Edward D. Yewell.

She was predeceased by Edward, as well as by a son, Edward D. Yewell Jr.

Barbara volunteered for various hospitals, as well as for the Boys and Girls Club of Stuart, Fla., and most recently, for Grace Episcopal Church in Lexington, where she was a member.

Her survivors include a daughter, Helen Y. Wilkinson, and husband, Mark, of Lexington; and a granddaughter, Jennifer, of Columbus, Ohio. Barbara is also survived by her brother, George G. Wasser of Greenville, Pa., one niece, Susan Beatty, of Conneaut Lake Pa., and nephews, George Wasser of Montana, Ray Wasser of North Carolina, and John Himmelrich of Florida.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 9, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church. A private internment will occur later in Greenville, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Grace Episcopal Church or Rockbridge Area Hospice.

The family wishes to express its heartfelt thanks to Dr. William J. Sayre, and to the staff at Havenwood Assisted Living, as well as Rockbridge Area Hospice for the wonderful, loving care and support they provided during Barbara's last months.
