David Carl Keifer, 68, of Lexington, Virginia died Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at the Veterans Administration hospital in Salem after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born December 23, 1949 in Union, NJ, the son of the late Carl and Catherine Keifer.

David is survived by his wife, Linda, of Lexington, daughters, Stacy Creasy and husband, David of Concord, VA; Terri Robertson and husband, Steve of Natural Bridge; granddaughter, Amanda and grandsons, Jacob and Jessie, and his two beloved, Beagles Zoe and Ellie. He is also survived by a brother, Ronald Keifer of Daytona Beach, FL; and two sisters, Gloria Kreutz, of Melbourne, FL, and Catherine Soprano, of Marathon, FL.

He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Keifer of Lakewood, NJ, and a sister, Doris Lancenese of Palm Coast, FL.

He was retired, working for 30 years for Woody Chevrolet, most of that time as the auto body shop manager. He served in the U. S. Army and was stationed in South Korea.

Dave was talented mechanic and craftsman. He restored a Piper Colt airplane from a basket case into a beautiful machine, which he flew frequently locally, and as far away as Florida. He was the primary towpilot for Springwood Soaring Association in Buchanan for 25 years.

The late Rucker Tibbs, owner of New London Airport and a member of the Virginia Aviation Hall of Fame, once said of Dave that he was one of only a few Yankees he ever knew who could actually fix things and didn't claim to know everything about everything.

No funeral services are planned. The family requests that donations in David's name be made to the Rockbridge SPCA, P. O. Box 528, Lexington, VA 24450.
