Hot Springs Native Was Lower Cascades Waitress

Marilyn Marie Woodzell McElwee, 96, of Hot Springs, Virginia died Monday, April 23, 2018 at Bath Community Hospital in Hot Springs.

She was born December 19, 1921 in Hot Springs, Virginia, the daughter of the late Russell Woodzell and Ada Belle Robertson Woodzell.

Mrs. McElwee retired from the Lower Cascades, where she worked as a waitress.

She was a faithful member of Eden United Methodist Church. She enjoyed flowers and working in the yard and was an amazing cook. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She was married to the late Douglas Junior McElwee, who preceded her in death on April 7, 2016.

She is survived by four children, Keith McElwee and wife, Judy and Debbie Ratcliffe and husband, Gary, all of Hot Springs; Lenny McElwee of Burnsville, Virginia, Rick McElwee and wife, Teri of Trinity, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Wendy, Jamie, Brad, Sarah, Jozy, Nikki; two great grandchildren, Flynn and Grady; Special Nieces, Gail Woodzell and Norma Liptrap; Nephews, Wayne and Tony Foster; special friends, Berlin and Ethel McElwee.

She was preceded in death by special grandson, Riley; a brother, Arnold "Apple" Woodzell and his wife, Josephine; a sister, Beatrice "Bea" Jones and her husband, Pete.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 26, 2018 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with Pastor Lorrie Aikens officiating, assisted by Johnny Woodzell officiating. Interment will be in Warm Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brad McElwee, Wendy Wenck, Tim Wenck, Nikki Deaner, Georgie Lindsay, Ronnie Carpenter and Bobby Fry. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jamie McElwee, Bobby Woodzell, Bobby Liptrap and men of the Eden United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home.
