Obituary for Carrie Sue Murphy Thomas Carrie Sue Murphy Thomas
Eagle Rock Resident Was Alleghany County Native

Carrie Sue Murphy Thomas, age 87, of 502 Gala Loop Road, Eagle Rock, Virginia died Wednesday, May 2, 2018 in the Hospice of Charles County in Waldorf, Maryland.

She was born March 18, 1931 in Alleghany County, Virginia to the late John and Pauline Jenkins Murphy.

She was the Secretary to the Assistant Superintendent for the Charles County Board of Education.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and enjoyed watching NASCAR, especially Jeff Gordon.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Dora McCaleb and Nora "Lou" Hahn, and a brother, John Robert "Pat" Murphy.

She is survived by her husband, Ira Basil Thomas of Eagle Rock; a daughter, Paula Thomas-Shipley and husband, David of Salisbury, MD; a son, Wayne Thomas of La Plata, MD; a sister, Frankie Gorman and husband, Bill of Lynchburg; a brother, Mike Murphy and wife, Sheila of Clifton Forge; a sister-in-law, Ruby Murphy of Clifton Forge; three grandchildren, Stephanie Woodhouse, Ryan Thomas, and Margaret Thomas; two great grandchildren, Joshua Woodhouse and Lydia Woodhouse; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Pastor Teddy Bias officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel United Methodist Cemetery in Botetourt County. Pallbearers will be Dave Shipley, Wayne Thomas, Ryan Thomas, Margaret Thomas, John Woodhouse, and Stephanie Woodhouse.

The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home.
