Obituary for Nolan Ray Nicely, Sr. Nolan Ray Nicely, Sr.
Retired CSX Transportation Electrician Was Alleghany County Native

Nolan Ray Nicely, Sr., age 76, of 3602 Douthat Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Monday, May 14, 2018 at LewisGale Hospital – Alleghany, Low Moor.

He was born December 20, 1941 in Alleghany County, Virginia to the late Shadrick and Susie Viola Conner Nicely.

He was a retired electrician for CSX Transportation. Following his retirement from the railroad, he was owner/operator for Nicely Home Inspection.

He was a member of the Ro-Ho Hunt Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Smith, and four brothers, S.L. Nicely, Richard Nicely, Arnold Nicely and Carl Nicely.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Nicely; a son, Nolan R. Nicely, Jr. and wife, Hope; a daughter, Lori Nicely Moore, all of Clifton Forge; step sons, Michael French of Salem and Brian Rose and wife, Jeanne of Stuarts Draft; and four sisters, Margaret Griffith of Berryville, Ethel Collins of Clifton Forge Hazel Burns and husband, Reverend John Burns of Buchannon, WV, and JoAnn Land of Roanoke; two brothers, Marion E. Nicely and Dennis Nicely, Sr. and wife, Peggy, both of Clifton Forge; five grandchildren, Cedar Moore, Laurel Moore, Nolan Nicely, III and Asher Clay Nicely; step-granddaughter, Leah Rose; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend John Burns and Reverend Dennis Nicely officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Baptist Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

Pallbearers will be Steve Brackenridge, Marty Burns, Eddie Herron, Freddy Martin, Cedar Moore, Andrew Pope, Brandon Semones, and Colby Trammell.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Sharon Baptist Church, C/O Ellen Snead, 3107 Longdale Furnace Road, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
