U. S. Navy World War II Veteran Was Longtime Virginia State Trooper

Paul Bradford Kesterson, 90, of Covington, Virginia died May 15, 2018 at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany.

He was the husband of Imogene Stoutamyre Kesterson for 70 years.

Mr. Kesterson was born July 6, 1927, in Augusta County, a son of the late Bruce A. Kesterson and Susan Hess Kesterson.

He was a veteran of World War II and served in the United States Navy.

Mr. Kesterson was retired from the Virginia State Police with thirty-three years of service. He enjoyed tractor pulling, going to D&J Family Restaurant and later, the Downtown Diner.

Paul was a member of Fletcher Chapel United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Kesterson was preceded in death by an infant son, Mark Hampton Kesterson; a brother, Elwood; and a sister, Katherine; and grandson, Timothy Shuping.

In addition to his wife, Imogene, Mr. Kesterson is survived by his sons, Bruce Kesterson of Covington and Steven Kesterson and wife, Joyce, of Bedford County; daughters, Linda K. Walker of Savannah, Georgia, and Laura Shuping, of Chantilly, Virginia; grandchildren, Mary Hoel, Melissa Kesterson, Danielle Milito, Jason Shuping, Christopher Shuping, and Iva Shuping; great-grandchildren, Hunter Kohen and Autumn Milito. Also surviving are two nieces and one nephew.

A funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Nancy Palmer officiating.

Pallbearers will be selected from friends and family attending the service.
