Obituary for Robert Wayne Lawson Robert Wayne Lawson
One Stop Sign Shop Owner Dies At Age 58

Mr. Robert Wayne Lawson, 58, husband of Julie Potter Lawson, passed away Friday, May 18, 2018 at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany.

Born on November 6, 1959 in Alleghany County, he was the son of the late Robert Irvine and Jenny Andrews Lawson.

He was the owner and operator of the One Stop Sign Shop in Covington, where he took pride in his work and he called himself the "Sign Man".

Wayne loved sports. He was a devoted fan of the Virginia Tech Hokies as well as an avid golfer in Alleghany, Bath and Greenbrier Counties. Whether on the field or on the green, he mostly enjoyed the camaraderie shared with friends. Above everything, Wayne will be remembered as a loving husband, a proud father and grandfather, a caring son, a devoted brother and uncle, a cherished friend, and a pillar of the community.

He never met a stranger, and to know him was to love him. Genuine and big-hearted, he was a true blessing to all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, Julie, Wayne is survived by a son, John Travis Lawson of Covington; two daughters, Emily Lawson Bennett and her husband, Chad of Knoxville, and Kelly Lawson May and her husband, Austin of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, James Cooper Bennett and Lily Marie May; three brothers, Randy Lee Lawson, Leslie Allen "Buckethead" Lawson and K. Thomas Lawson; one sister, Lisa Carol Lawson Giebner; a number of nieces and nephews; and two granddogs, Apollo "Superdog" Bennett and Zeke May.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Fletcher Lawson.
