Obituary for George Carlos Green George Carlos Green
Roanoke Native Was Retired Jennings & Webb Truck Driver

George Carlos Green, 79, of 704 North Pocahontas Avenue, Covington, Virginia died Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at his residence.

Mr. Green was born August 20, 1938, in Roanoke a son of the late Edward and Wealthy Boinett Green.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John Green, Paul Green and Leonard Green and a nephew, John "John Boy" Green, Jr.

George was a truck driver for over 40 years with the former Jennings & Webb Co. and had retired from TCI, Inc.

He loved spending time outdoors with his loyal pup, Duke. He was an avid Washington Redskins fan.

Surviving are his companion of 52 years, Erma Taylor Lipes of Covington; one daughter, Cathy Lipes of Covington; three sons, Billy Lipes and his wife, Angie, of Roanoke; Allen Lipes and James Stanley of Gibsonville, NC, and Donnie Lipes and his wife, Jen of Covington; four grandchildren, Tracie Fridley, whom he raised and her husband, Mark, and Michael Thacker and Megan Bobbitt, all of Covington; Travis and Amber Lipes of Roanoke and Chad Lipes of Lynchburg; four great grandchildren, Darion Thacker Palmer of Atlanta, GA, Landon Thacker, Hunter Fridley and Abbie Fridley, all of Covington; one brother, Barry and Francis Green of Roanoke; two sisters, Jean Fergurson of Roanoke and Violet and Merritt Moore of Norfolk; special in-laws, Ralph and Betty Price and Ralphie Taylor, all of Covington and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, June 10, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Christian officiating.

Interment will be made in the Humphries Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Michael Thacker, Hunter Fridley, Jason Taylor, Chad Lipes, Travis Lipes, "Doobie" Taylor, David Green and Steven Green.

The family will receive their friends Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.
