Arthur Junior Carter, 76, of Buena Vista, Virginia departed life on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Shenandoah Valley Health & Rehab Center, Buena Vista.

Junior was born April 19, 1942 in Amherst County, a son of Howard Richardson and Noah Carter.

Junior a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church, loved his church family unconditionally, dedicated to overseeing the church inside and out. Junior took much pride in his home and lawn and had a love for the outdoors. He retired from Reeves Brothers and Modine.

A great father, grandfather, and friend to all, he will be greatly missed.

Junior was also preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mary Martin Carter.

He is survived by his children: Rita Carter, Buena Vista, Pam Carter Mason (Anthony Mason), Buena Vista, Arthur Cortez Carter (Dina Carter), Newburgh, Ind.; grandchildren, Kiauna Mason and Demetre Carter, Buena Vista; great grandchildren, D'markoe and Aedric, Buena Vista; girlfriend, Rebecca Langhorn, Buena Vista; brothers, the Rev. Doctor Leroy Carter (Josephine), Buena Vista, Jessie Carter (Elaine), Glasgow, Claude Carter, and Clyde Carter, and sister, Lena Nowlin, all of Buena Vista; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Leroy Carter officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 13, at the church.
