Frances Pauline Southers Shafer, 90, of Buena Vista, Virginia passed away Monday, July 16, 2018 at her residence.

Born March 5, 1928, in Rockbridge County, she was the daughter of the late Levi Southers and Georgieanna Mason Southers.

She was also preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Olin E. Shafer Sr.; son, Olin E. Shafer Jr.; and brother, Henry Southers.

Surviving are her children, Katherine S. Widdifield (John), Howard D. Shafer (Mary), Allen E. Shafer (Debbie), Wanda G. Shafer, and Gordon P. Shafer (Belinda); daughter-in-law, Rita Shafer; sisters, Georgie Ruley and Bernice Majors; 15 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and special friend, Pat Mays.

A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens by the Rev. John L. Widdifield.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Buena Vista Rescue Squad.

Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
