Obituary for Ruby Palmer Murphy Ruby Palmer Murphy
Former Deputy U. S. Marshall Also Worked With Social Security Administration

Ruby Palmer Murphy, age 93, of 727 McCormick Boulevard, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Friday, August 3, 2018 at LewisGale Hospital – Alleghany in Low Moor, Virginia.

Ruby was born August 5, 1924 in Mendenhall, Mississippi to the late Charlie Aid and MaryJane Gates Palmer.

She was a retired Deputy United States Marshall in Alexandria, and also worked for a number of years for the United States Social Security Administration.

She was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church in Selma, a charter member of the Anata Shrine Guild, and also was a member of the Red Hat Society.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert "Pat" Murphy in February 1995, and a son, Dennis Randolph "Randy" Murphy.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Len "Debby" Faulkenbury of Clifton Forge; a daughter-in-law, Sheri Femrite; a sister, Billy Jean Palmer Drysdale of San Bernadino, CA; five grandchildren, John Leonard Faulkenbury, Charles Andrew Faulkenbury and wife, Karin, Elizabeth Murphy Brown and husband, Nathan, Dennis Jacob Wade Murphy and wife, Lauri, and Nicola Murphy Rushing and husband, Josh; four great grandchildren, Zoey, Keira, Eli, and Celestine; a number of nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Gloria Reviere; and a special friend, Sally Pettigrew.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 6, 2018 at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Pastor Teddy Bias officiating. Interment will follow in Emory United Methodist Church Cemetery, Hot Springs. Ruby's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Shriners Hospitals for Children – Greenville, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605 or to The American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, is in charge of arrangements.
