Born July 11, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois, Anice Sonheim Machado passed away at home (Sunshine on the Lake) in Linn Township, Wisconsin on July 31, 2018 after a brief, unexpected illness.

The cause of death was a rare form of ovarian cancer.

She was receded in death by her parents, Esther and Alex Sonheim.

She is survived by her husband and loving soul-mate for 50 years, Barry Francis Machado.

Anice was the devoted mother to son, Ethan (Alena) and daughter, Amanda Frye (Michael), beloved "Nicey" to her five grandchildren: Julia (14), Alexandrew (12), Riley (11), Elliot (10), and Oliver (2), loving sister to Karen Braden (Mark), aunt to Ryan Braden (Jaymie), Hilary Jones (Brent), as well as Peter and Jackson Machado. She was also sister-in-law to David (aka Tiger-Man) and Julie Machado, and to Kenneth Machado. Her brother, Jeff Sonheim, lives in New Mexico.

Anice's award-winning teaching career at the middle school level spanned 42 years in Rockbridge County and Walworth County, Wis. Although she touched the lives of thousands and thousands of students for the better, her greatest reward was her years spent as a docent at the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center in Skokie, Ill. Her mother was a Holocaust survivor.

Funeral arrangements are private, but "A Celebration of Anice's Remarkable Life" will be held for family and friends at Celebration on Wells in Lake Geneva on September 16. Additional details about that special event will be announced later. In lieu of flowers, please send any memorials in Anice's honor to the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center.
