Lexington Native Dies At Age 88

Jerry Edward Roane, 88, of Lexington, Virginia was called to greater works Sunday, August 12, 2018 at 3:43 p.m.

Born December 7, 1929 in Lexington, he was a son of the late Herman Robert Roane and Frances Strange Roane.

The second oldest of five children, Jerry's life's work, achievements and his commitment to God, distinguished him as an exceptional man.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Herman Roane Jr., Naomi Watts, Frances Green and Leon Roane.

Jerry served in the United States Air Force for 21 years and worked for 20 years at Virginia Military Institute until he retired. He was a lifelong member of Randolph Street United Methodist Church, where he exemplified his servanthood to Christ.

Jerry will be sorely missed by his beloved wife of 62 years, Alice "Poo" Roane, and his children, Kirk (Sandy), Valarie, Yolanda "Yo-Yo" (Phillip), and Troy (Cynthia); ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren; in-laws, nieces and nephews are also left to cherish his memory.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, August 17, 2018 at Randolph Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Louis H. Caddell and the Rev. James Bollinger officiating. Burial will follow at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, August 16, at Harrison Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers St., Lexington, VA 24450 or Randolph Street United Methodist Church, 118 S. Randolph St., Lexington, VA 24450.
