Obituary for W. H. (Billy) Gladwell, Jr. W. H. (Billy) Gladwell, Jr.
U. S. Navy Veteran Was Iron Gate Baptist Church Member, Welding Instructor

W. H. (Billy) Gladwell, Jr., age 69, of 76 Link Road, Eagle Rock, Virginia died Sunday, August 19, 2018 at his residence.

He was born December 5, 1948 in Alleghany County to the late Wilmer Hayse Gladwell, Sr. and Elizabeth Whiteside Gladwell.

He served in the United States Navy on the USS Forrestal (CV-59).

He was a member of Iron Gate Baptist Church.

Billy was a boilermaker and welder for Norfolk Southern Railroad for 35 years, and taught adult welding at Jackson River Technical Center for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy Mundy Gladwell of Eagle Rock; a daughter, Melissa Gladwell-Sayres of Lexington; three step children, David Cummings, Brian and Tracy Shinault, and Dustin and Kellie Cash, all of Covington; two sisters, Pauline Braxton of Tennessee and Artha Strange of Kentucky; two grandchildren, Ava and Estella Crocker; a sister, Pauline Branton; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Covington with Mr. Chris Fisher officiating. Friends may call at the residence any time.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Intrepid Hospice, 4005 Electric Road, Suite 200, Roanoke, Virginia 24018.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, is in charge of arrangements.
