Longtime Electrician Was Burnsville United Methodist Church Member, Devoted NASCAR Fan

Charles Edward Alexander, 80, of Burnsville, Virginia passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at his residence.

He was born April 13, 1938 in Waynesboro, Virginia, the son of the late Charles Andrew Alexander and Earline Elizabeth Page Alexander.

Charlie moved to Maryland as a teenager, where after high school, he pursued a career as an electrician.

He retired from IBEW, Local 26 in Washington DC and moved to Burnsville, where he established his own electrical business, serving Bath County residents until 2014 when he became ill.

In his younger years, Charlie enjoyed working on and racing his stock car. He was an avid NASCAR fan and a devoted fan of Dale Earnhardt, Sr. He enjoyed hunting, bowling, gardening, travelling, driving his tractor, puttering in his garage, helping neighbors and of course, his family and friends.

He never went anywhere without running into someone he knew. Charlie could build and fix most anything. He was loved by many; he will be missed greatly by all who knew him.

Charlie was a member of the Burnsville United Methodist Church and the Burnsville Rescue Squad & Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Anne Alexander of Burnsville; three children, Lynn Marie Alexander of Burnsville, Charles Edward Alexander and wife, Glasfira of College Park, Maryland, Andrew Allen Alexander and wife, Cathie of New Windsor, Maryland; nine grandchildren, Wade and Teresa, Jason and Felicia, Travis and Chelsea and Kimberly Alexander, Johanna and Jesus Castro; five great grandchildren, Charlotte, Jakob, Eric, Alexis and Trent Alexander; a sister, Elfreda McDaniel of Burnsville; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Alexander of Burnsville, Alice Keefe of Laurel, Maryland; a brother-in-law, Joe English of Codores, Pennsylvania; and a numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Wade Alexander.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Burnsville United Methodist Church with Pastor Lorrie Aikens officiating.

Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Waynesboro. Pallbearers will be Charles Alexander, Andrew Alexander, Mark McDaniel, David McDaniel, Jesse Lambert, Danny Lambert, Jimmy Mills, Wade Alexander, Travis Alexander and Scott Alexander.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the church.
