Buena Vista Resident Dies At Age 78

Clarence Oakie Cash, of Buena Vista, Virginia was called home to be with the Lord unexpectedly on September 20, 2018. He was 78 years old.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He was born to the late William Carlyle Cash and Martha Elizabeth Pugh Cash, both of Natural Bridge.

Oakie was loved dearly by all who knew him, and he was truly an angel here on Earth. He was an amazing man who took pleasure in spending as much time as possible around the people he loved. He enjoyed sitting around listening to music and making jokes to everyone around him, especially his wife, who he was married to for almost 60 years. Oakie also enjoyed watching NASCAR and western shows on television. He will always be remembered as a good-hearted and honest man by all who knew him. Oakie will be missed dearly.

He is preceded in death by his sister Arbutis "Bootsie" Cash Coleman and brother, William "Jeter" Calvin Cash.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanette Cash, of Buena Vista; his children, Larry Oakie Cash and wife, Gail, of Buena Vista, Gary Dean Cash and wife, Rhonda, of Buena Vista, Billie Jo Thurston and husband, Cameron, of Natural Bridge, and Shelley Cash Lilley and fiance, Jeff Thomas, of Glasgow; his sisters, Joyce Cash Spence of Buena Vista and Shirley Cash Foster of Natural Bridge, and brother, Leslie Carlyle Cash Sr. of Collierstown; his grandchildren, Heather Nicole Cash, Michael Scott Beard, Ben Shafer, Derrick Hite, Christina Ramsey and husband, Jordan, Dustin Cash, and Alexis Lilley; his great-grandchildren Jacob Shafer, Tyler Shafer, and Logan Ramsey.

Services will be held at Victory Baptist Church lead by Rev. Dean Staton on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive visitors for an hour prior to the service.

A special thanks to all first responders, who went above and beyond to help on the day of his passing. In lieu of flowers, his family is asking for donations to the Buena Vista Rescue Squad.

Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose, and Lots Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
