Retired Hammond-Mitchell Employee Was Faith Baptist Church Member

James Bertrand (Bert) Lockhart, 81, of 1900 Mallow Road, Covington, Virginia died Wednesday morning, September 26, 2018 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem.

Mr. Lockhart was born September 17, 1937 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Willie Clyde and Beulah May Redman Lockhart.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Walton Lockhart in 2005, and by his brother, Welford Lockhart and a sister, Janice Wiseman.

He retired from Hammond-Mitchell Construction Company.

He was a member of Faith Baptist Church and was a former member of the Virginia National Guard. Bert enjoyed working on lawn mowers and being outdoors. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Cheri Lockhart of Covington; his daughter, Charlotte Blankenship of Lindside, WV; three grandchildren, Kimberly Stone and her husband, Randall of Gap Mills, WV, Charlie Lockhart and his wife, Dakota of Covington and Amanda Hoke of Lindside, WV; six great grandchildren, Tyler Stone, Levi Stone, Collieonia Lockhart, Carlie Lockhart, Autumn Hoke and Tobias Blankenship; two sisters, Venice Shipley and her husband, Larry, and Rebecca Reed, all of Elk Ridge, MD; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Friday, September 28, 2018, at 12:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Price officiating.

Interment will be made in Alleghany Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.

The family suggests that donations in Mr. Lockhart's name be made to Faith Baptist Church.
