Obituary for Patricia Sue (Patsy) Haynes Ford Patricia Sue (Patsy) Haynes Ford
Carloover Native Was Registered Nurse, Worked With Bath Community Hospital, Ford's 7 Day Store

Patricia Sue (Patsy) Haynes Ford, 79, died at home on October 1, 2018 surrounded by loving family members.

Patsy was born in Carloover on March 11, 1939, the daughter of the late Gordon Tatum Haynes, Sr. and Ruth Ann Clark Haynes.

In 1947, she became a member of the Ashwood United Methodist Church and remained an active and steadfast part of that faith community throughout her life. Patsy is particularly remembered there in the Ashwood Choir, where her beautiful alto voice sang God's praises.

A graduate of Valley High School Class of 1957, Patsy was the youngest of the Haynes family athletes to play for Valley teams. She married her high school sweetheart, Tommy Ford, on January 16, 1959 and they welcomed three children through the years, Jeff, Jill, and Jay, starting the family tradition of first names that begin with the letter "J".

In 1965, Patsy won a county-wide contest to create a Bath County slogan, coining the phrase "Year Round Playground" that captured the essence of the home she loved so much.

Patsy attended C&O Hospital School of Nursing and Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, graduating as a Registered Nurse and began her career in nursing at Community House Hospital (later Bath Community Hospital). Patsy also was co-owner of Ford's 7-Day General Store in Hot Springs and Angler's Paradise Lodge in Welaka, Florida with her husband, Tommy.

Patsy was known as "BomBom" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and devoted years to their local sporting events, band concerts, and Christmas light extravaganzas, while also visiting via her iPad with those who were not nearby.

Patsy was preceded in death by her parents and her sister and best friend, Shirley Haynes Lennon.

Surviving family include her husband, Edsel B. "Tommy" Ford; son, Jeffrey Bryant Ford and his wife, Christie of Hot Springs; daughter, Jill Elaine Ford Lockhart and Bret of Mesa, Arizona; and son, Jay Edward Ford and wife, Chris of Millboro; seven grandchildren: Jessica Lockhart Elsesser of Gilbert, Arizona, Jeremy Lockhart and wife, Joy of Rocklin, California, Jailyn Ford and Jonah Ford of Hot Springs; Jordan Ford of Anaheim, California, Jensen and Jenifer Ford of Millboro; three step grandchildren: Jerry Rice, Derek and Lindsay Oliver; five great-grandchildren: Dillon, Abby, Briley, and Emmy Elsesser, and Ivy Lockhart; and two step-great grandchildren: Laney and Tyler Rice; four brothers and their spouses: Donald and Charlotte M. A service celebrating Patsy's life will be held at Ashwood United Methodist Church in Hot Springs on Saturday, October 6, at 11:00 a.m. with the family visitation prior to the service at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial tributes be sent to Ashwood United Methodist Church, c/o Frank Johnson, 5028 Sam Snead Highway, Hot Springs, Virginia 24445 or The Doris Via Cancer Fund, P. O. Box 174, Hot Springs, Virginia 24445.
