Alleghany High School Teacher Dies At Age 43

Ms. Stacey Nicole Gibson, age 43, of Covington, Virginia died Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke.

Ms. Gibson was born December 11, 1974 in Alleghany County, the daughter of Betty Williams Gibson and the late Gerald Wayne Gibson, Sr.

She graduated from Covington High School in 1992 and attained an Associate's Degree from Dabney S. Lancaster Community College in 1994. Stacey went on to graduate from James Madison University in 1996 with a BA in Geology and a Minor in Education, and then graduated from Capella University with a Master's Degree in Education.

Ms. Gibson taught at Rockbridge High School for four years prior to working as a teacher at Alleghany High School for the past seventeen years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher Honor Society.

Stacey was a member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she served her church as an elder, a member of the choir as well as a member of Circle Number 2 and was assistant Sunday School Superintendent and Bible School Director. She was a faithful member of her church and loved her church family.

Stacey had wonderful friends, loved traveling with her family and was an avid JMU and N. Y. Yankees fan.

In addition to her mother, Ms. Gibson is survived by her siblings, Gerald W. Gibson Jr. and April Reyns and husband, Frank; special sisters, Marlene Faidley, Libby Riley and Cathy Rowan; nieces and nephews, AdriAnne and Daniel Reynolds, Katie Gibson, Mahaley Reyns, Holden Broughman, Derek Gibson, Rachel Reyns, and Lizzie Baker; great niece, LilliAnna Reynolds; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

In addition to her father, Ms. Gibson was preceded in death by her grandparents, Woodrow and Beatrice Gibson and Roy and Marie Williams.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 7, 2018 at McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church, 900 N. Alleghany Avenue, Covington, with Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating, assisted by Rev. Mike Fleenor. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

A reception will be held at McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church following interment.

Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church, 900 N. Alleghany Avenue, Covington, VA 24426.
