William Rader Dod, 83, of Lexington, Virginia died Thursday, October 4, 2018 peacefully in his home surrounded by his family.

He was born July 15, 1935 in Lexington, Va., son of John Byard Dod and Anne B. Dod.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Steve B. Dod; and his loving wife, Eleanor Bell Dod of 60 years, whom he married in college in 1955. Together they resided in many major cities along the east coast before living in Staunton, where Mr. Dod was the owner of Dod Oil Company for 22 years, and owner and Vice President of Outer Banks Video Inc.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lexington.

Other surviving family members include his sister, Laura "Punky" Dod; two daughters, Jenni B. Dod and Bryan (Poo) Mines of Lexington, and her husband Barry T. Mines; along with one son, William Rader Dod II of Staunton and his wife, Lissa Furr Dod; six grandchildren, Brook Reeves of Huddleston, Va., Courtney Branch-Clark of Lexington and her husband, Vincent Branch-Clark, Max Baer Miller III and Harrison Mines of Lexington, Anne-Charles Dod and William Rader Dod III of Staunton; two great-grandchildren, Gabriel Lee, and Vaida Bell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Dod obtained his bachelor's degree in business administration at West Virginia University, where he was also an active member of the Mu Mu chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.

He was an active member of the Masonic Temple. He served on the Board of Directors at SunTrust Bank and was a strong patron and advocate for the Lime Kiln Arts. He was a member of the Staunton Elks Lodge #351.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 27th on Alpha & Omega Farm. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in Rader's name to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 2900 Roeky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
