Lexington Resident Dies At Age 96

Our beloved Dorothy Elizabeth Hatcher Lunsford, 96, of Lexington, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018.

The daughter of the late W. Wilfred and Mary Carter Hatcher, she is preceded in death by brothers, Obie, William and John Hatcher, and sisters, May Jane Campbell, Vera Hatcher and Ethel Henderson.

She was the widow of Charles Henry Lunsford.

She is survived by daughter, Shirley Ballard Tolley and son-in-law, George D. Tolley; granddaughter, Donna Tolley Jarvis and husband, Dennis; grandson, Timothy Tolley; great-granddaughter, Meagan Jarvis Deacon and husband, Seth and their daughters, Avery and Tanner Mae; great-grandson, Brandon Jarvis and wife, Bobbie and their son, Landon; great-granddaughter, Caitlin Tolley and special friend, Lee Reid; a brother, Robert "Bob" Hatcher of Lexington and a sister, Audrey Hatcher Timberlake of Charlottesville; a special stepson, Richard D. Clark of Havenwood. Also two stepsons, Charles Lunsford Jr. and Byron Lunsford, both of Waynesboro, and two stepdaughters, Sandra and Shirley, both of Waynesboro; her caregiver and friend, Maxine Clark, who has been with her the past two years.

Dorothy was a generous and loving sister, mother and grandmother and a friend to all who knew her.

She loved to cook and bake especially bread and cakes. Her favorite hobby was stringing retro beads, making bracelets, earrings and necklaces. She loved her church, Lexington Baptist, and missed attending the last few years due to her health. This lovely and talented lady will be missed by all.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Harrison Funeral Home with burial at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

The services will be conducted by Pastors Michael Wilburn and Michael Saunders. "Amazing Grace" will be sung by her granddaughter, Meagan Deacon.

ln lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lexington Baptist Church, 75 Old Farm Road, Lexington VA 24450. Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
