Army Veteran Was Retired Electrician, Foreman For H&M Electric Company

Jon David Gilbert, 71, of 401 Douglas Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Saturday, October 13, 2018 at his residence.

He was born August 31, 1947 in Patrick County, Virginia, a son of the late Harry D. and Mary Virginia Simpson Gilbert.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, a retired electrician and foreman for H&M Electric Company, and a member of the Clifton Forge Elks Lodge BPOE #1065.

Jon was also an avid Virginia Tech fan and his family requests that you dress in your Virginia Tech Clothing and colors for his service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Leffue, and two brothers, Jack and Jeff Gilbert.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Anne R. Gilbert of Clifton Forge; three daughters, Margaret Anne "Meg" Hicks and husband, Andy of Covington, Wendy Gilbert Poague and husband, Ronnie of Covington, Molly Beth Gilbert and companion, Chris Conner; six grandchildren, Ariel Chappel and husband, Gary, Brooke Carson, Taylor Poague, Colton Poague, Riley Persinger, and Josie Anne Conner; a great grandchild, Autumn; a sister, Jane Linkenhouker and husband, Sardy of Clifton Forge; a brother, Jim Gilbert and wife, Jean of Stafford; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; special friends, Reggie and Becky Deane, Brandy Vaughan; Diane Kouns and Ashley Boyd of Mountain Regional Hospice; his beloved H&M Electric family; and his K-9 children, Jake and Lilly.

In keeping with his wishes his body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge with the Reverend Donna Sams officiating. Casual attire requested. His family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at Nicely Funeral Home.
