Obituary for Mildred L. Heywood Mildred L. Heywood
Trinity United Methodist Church Member Dies At Age 96

Mildred L. Heywood, age 96, of Lexington, Virginia passed away on November 10, 2018.

Mildred or Milly, as she was known to her friends, was born on May 28, 1922 in Mechanicville, N.Y.

She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Robert Poole Heywood; her parents, Georgianna M. and Robert Earl Leighton; a stepfather, Chester Macklin; a sister, Ruth L. Baker and husband, Winfield Baker; and a brother-in-law, John S. Heywood.

She is survived by her daughters, Christine Heywood of Latham, N.Y., and Lisa R. Heywood-Drake (Gordon) of Loudonville, N.Y.; a son, Gregory N. Heywood (Carolyn) of E. Dummerston, Vt.; and her grandchildren, Beth Heywood (Bob Cruickshank) of New Hampshire, and Mark R. Heywood of Maine; her nephew, Scott H. Baker (Kathy) of South Carolina, and her great niece and nephews, Maggie Josephson (Mike) and family, Scott Baker (Jada) and family, and Brian Baker (Heather) and family; nephew, Daniel L. Baker (Sharon) of Pittsfield, Mass., and great nephews and nieces, Lynn, James, Jillian, Daniel, Maura and Caitlin. And two nieces, the Honorable Heidi Heywood (Duncan) of Skamokawa, Wash., and family, and Leslie Heywood of Binghamton, N.Y., and family.

Milly Heywood was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1998 and a member of the Morning Circle. Milly Heywood was a great cook, loved to play the piano, paint, sew and knit. She and her husband, Bob, loved dogs, especially Huskies. Milly loved the outdoors, birds and animals, and enjoyed company and always had "emergency dessert" in the freezer.

Prior to moving to Lexington, Milly and her husband lived in Keene, N.Y., and the town of Colonie, N.Y. Special thanks to her part-time caregivers from Home Instead and Americares.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, November 16, 2018 at Harrison Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Joe Cailles officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at Hudson View Cemetery, Mechanicville, N.Y. The family will receive visitors one hour before the service on Friday at the Harrison Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or the Virginia Tech Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, Blacksburg, Va.
