Obituary for James Edward Jackson James Edward Jackson
Covington Native Was Korean War Air Force Veteran, Retired Federal Police Officer

James Edward Jackson, age 84, of 2001 Ridgewood Drive, Salem, Virginia, and formerly of 1617 17th Street SE, Apt 104, Washington D.C., died Sunday, November 25, 2018 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salem.

Mr. Jackson was born October 28, 1934 in Covington, Virginia to the late Sylvester E. and Essie Mae Winston Jackson.

He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was a retired federal police officer for the United States Civil Service Commission.

He was a former member of the Pine Street Baptist Church of Covington.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Annie L. Jones and Emiline Jackson; a brother, William Jackson; a brother-in-law, James E. Brown, Jr.; a nephew, James E. Brown III; and a number of aunts and uncles.

He is survived by a sister, Shirley J. Brown of Covington; a brother, Joseph L. Jackson and wife, Jean of Washington D. C.; a number of nieces and nephews; his long-time girlfriend, Patricia Smith of Washington D. C.; and many other friends.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Covington, with Reverend David Halsey officiating.

The family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, before proceeding to Cedar Hill Cemetery for the service.
