Korean War Veteran Was Burlington Industries Retiree

Harry Edward Funkhouser, 87, of Glasgow, Virginia, died Monday, December 3, 2018.

He was born September 13, 1931 in Lexington to the late Wilton Leitch Funkhouser and Martha McCormick Snider Funkhouser.

Harry was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U. S. Army.

He attended Beth Horon United Methodist Church and was retired from Burlington after 50 years.

He cherished time with his beloved wife and family, farming, fishing, playing cards, visiting with friends and meeting new people.

He was also preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Martha Sue Wood Funkhouser; and sisters, Nancy Elizabeth Funkhouser and Edith Miller Funkhouser Major.

He is survived by his six sons, Eddie (Vicky), David (Jane), Willy (Kristie), Andy (Stacey), Steve (Kathy), and John; adopted children, Steve Staton and Patty Hollins; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer, Chris (Zack), Dylan (Marissa), Jason (Carly), Patrick (Melissa), Erin, Heather (George), Rachel, Sophia, Abby, and Emma; five great-grandchildren, Kayleigh, Adelyn, Brayden, Tyler and Logan; and brothers, Robert, Jack (Betty), and Carlton (Lisa).

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, December 7 at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Thad Decker officiating. Interment will be private at Wood Cemetery, Glen Wilton.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, December 6 at the funeral home.

Special thanks are extended to Rockbridge Area Hospice and Harry's daytime caregivers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers St., Lexington, VA 24450.

Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
