North Carolina Resident Dies At Age 89

Dorothy Brooks McSherry of Lake Gaston, North Carolina, age 89, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2018.

A native of Hampton and Newport News, Virginia, she is the daughter of the late Walter Lee and Elizabeth Barham Brooks.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James P. McSherry Sr.; son, Michael Keith McSherry; sister, Dawn Brooks Vliet; and brother, Russell Lee Brooks.

She is survived by her sons, James P. McSherry Jr. and wife, Nina of Cary, North Carolina; Gary Steven McSherry and wife, Lisa of Richmond, Virginia; Darryl Brooks McSherry and wife, Mary of Hampton, Virginia; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Rosenberger McSherry of Williamsburg, Virginia; and sister, Catherine Brooks Oder of Hampton, Virginia; grandchildren, Jennifer Alyce McSherry, Sean Michael McSherry, Brian Patrick McSherry and Brad Thomas McSherry; great grandchildren, Sydney Nicole McSherry, Katelyn Marie McSherry, Brian Patrick McSherry Jr., Sean James McSherry, Alivia Brooks McSherry, Dylan Jacob McSherry and Vance Michael McSherry.

She loved living on Lake Gaston, cooking, canning, playing bridge and spending time with her many friends and family.

A funeral mass will be conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 18 at St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. The family will receive friends following the service. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Wednesday, December 19 at Peninsula Memorial Gardens in Newport News, Virginia.
