Emily Virginia Whitesell, 98, of Brownsburg, Virginia died Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Blue Ridge Christian Homes.

Born December 8, 1920 in Rockbridge County, she was the daughter of the late Roy Brown Wade and Mary Virginia Bare Wade.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Layton Whitesell.

She was a member of the New Providence Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are her children, John M. Whitesell and wife, Joan of Fairfield and Richard L. Whitesell and wife, Joan of Rockbridge Baths; sisters, Mary Frances Poole of Waynesboro, and Bernice Nye and Ruth Beard, both of Raphine; six grandchildren, Vicki Stevens of Rockbridge Baths, Terry Whitesell of Raleigh, N.C., Darren Whitesell of Rockbridge Baths, Kris Whitesell of Fairfield, Greg Whitesell of Charlotte, N.C., and Timmy Whitesell of Fairfield; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2019 at New Providence Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Michael Snider and the Rev. Amy Fetterman officiating. Burial will be private at New Providence Presbyterian Cemetery.

There will be no visitation at funeral home, but family will receive friends after the memorial service in the New Providence Presbyterian social hall.

The family would like to thank the staff at Blue Ridge Christian Home for the care and love shown to Virginia and her family during her time with them.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Providence Presbyterian Church, 1208 New Providence Road, Raphine, VA 24472.
