Alleghany County Native Dies At Age 43

Kristine Nichole Harris, age 43, of 303 S. Marion Ave, Covington, Virginia died Sunday, February 10, 2019 in Lewis Gale – Alleghany Hospital at Low Moor.

She was born May 21, 1975 in Alleghany County, a daughter of Kathy Harris of Covington and the late Raymond McKnight.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond "Boodie" McKnight in 2018; her grandparents, Willie J. and Gertrude Bell McKnight and Warren F. Harris Sr.; three uncles, Randall McKnight, Sr., Lewis R. Venable, and Gregory Waddy Sr., and her best friend, Dawn Curtis; godmother, Louise Lemon and her aunt, Patricia McKnight.

She was a member and was baptized at the First Baptist Church and was a former choir member. Kristine was a graduate of Covington High School and continued her education by graduating from the Virginia Hair Academy as a licensed cosmetologist. She later received her certificate as a CNA. She was a former employee of Walmart, CCI Systems in Roanoke and the Alleghany Highlands YMCA West Learning Center. For over 10 years she was self-employed as a child care provider. She loved and nurtured each child as if he/she were her own. She was her Gammy's Dolly #1.

Her greatest love was for her family. The love that she had especially for her nieces and nephews was unfathomable.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by four sisters, Ramanda McKnight of Roanoke and Kindra McKnight of Raleigh NC, Kara McKnight, and Nikki Coles Jones; one brother, Franklin McKnight of Covington; her grandmother, Helen C. Harris of Covington; one aunt, Laura Waddy of Roanoke; two uncles, Warren Harris Jr. of Greenville, NC, and Willie McKnight and wife, Myra of Clifton Forge; one great aunt, Mrs. Trevor Harris of Cleveland, OH; nieces and nephews, Teandra Davis, Tenashia McKnight, Tavien Holloway, Tyion Holloway and Harris Brown; cousins, Stefanee Waddy and daughters, Gregory Waddy II, Terri McKnight and children, Marlon McKnight and families; three godsons, Zavier and Jayden Jones and Xzavier Allen; one goddaughter, Ambria Jackson of Durham, NC; a godmother, Zella Smith of Lithonia, GA; her Roanoke family, Venice and family; Wislene and family; Nathan Brandon and family; Latonia Reid and children, her JWH family # 100; cousins, Cathy Carroll, Gale Washington, Sue Venable, George and Clarice Halsey, Gay and Gary Twitty; her auntie, Maitland Cooper; her "crew" friends of over 30 years, Nicole Dorcus, Lucynda Persinger, Shanell Jeter, Kiona Jordan, Syrena Brown, Lakeisha Jackson, Monique Curtis, Martha Nicely, Linda and Latoya Jeter, Boomie Cosby, Buzz Barber, Boo Stewart, Greg Washington, also Heather Clark, Ronnie Allen; cousins, Eric Pancho, Michelle Petty, and Demond Vega, and her best friend since May 21, 1975 Nicole Holloway Jimison and many other friends including Tay Hughes and Quatese Smith.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in First Baptist Church on Lexington St. with Rev Willie L. Cannon, Jr. Officiating.

The interment will be made in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her special borthers, Kris "Buzz" Barber, Edward "Boomie" Cosby, Travis Davis, ReShawn Jeter, William "Boo" Stewart, Dilo Turrentine, Darren L. Venable, Lewis P. Venable III. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Twitty, Linwood Twitty, Greg Washington, Tommy Smith, and Clarence Twitty, Jr.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the service time at First Baptist Church.

The Arritt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
