Obituary for Grover Lee (Pud) Higgins Grover Lee (Pud) Higgins
Alleghany County Native Was Clifton Forge Town Employee

Grover Lee (Pud) Higgins, age 72, of 214 Higgins Hollow Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia, passed peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on Saturday, February 16, 2019.

Pud was born on July 25, 1946 in Alleghany County, Virginia to the late Len Crew Higgins and Virginia Etta Matheny Higgins.

He was a laborer for the town of Clifton Forge and a member of the Clifton Forge Moose Lodge.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert "Burt" Higgins, Ray Higgins, David Higgins, and Jimmy Higgins; a sister, Mary Ann Higgins Carroll; a sister-in-law, Angie Higgins; and three brothers-in-law, Billy Lawhorn, Chuck Lawhorn, and Randy Carroll.

He is survived by five sisters, Kay Nichols and husband, Lee, Janie Lawhorn, and Jeanette Angle and husband, Tony, all of Clifton Forge, Marie Lawhorn of Roanoke, and Eva Tucker and husband, Buzzy of Covington; three brothers, Jack Higgins, Gene "Lobo" Higgins, and Len Higgins, Sr., all of Clifton Forge; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Gene Ayers, Reverend Kenny Carroll, and Reverend Jonathan Greer officiating. Interment will follow in Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

The family will receive friends on Thursday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at 406 W. Ridgeway Street, Clifton Forge. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, P. O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422 or to the American Cancer Society.
