Obituary for Walter Arden Knick Walter Arden Knick
Alleghany County Native Dies At Age 85

Walter Arden Knick, 84, of 2126 Dressler Dr., Covington, Virginia, died Sunday, February 24, 2019 at the Brian Center in Low Moor.

Mr. Knick was born October 2, 1934 in Alleghany County, the son of the late Warnel and Carle Wilhelm Knick.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Phyllis Knick and his former companion, Carol Singer; a sister-in-law, Debbie Walton Knick, and a brother-in-law, George Cottrell.

Walter graduated from Covington High School, then went to William & Mary on a basketball scholarship. After many years later he then attended Virginia Tech. He worked for a private, government contracted company, while residing in a number of locations with his job.

He was of the Baptist faith, a sports fanatic, golfer, and had retired in Key West, Florida before returning to Covington.

Surviving are his brother, Warnel Knick Jr. of Charlotte; a sister, Patricia Knick Cottrell of Covington; nieces and nephews, Jonathan Knick, Jeffrey Knick, and Ashley Knick, all of Charlotte, Travis Cottrell of Appomattox, and Walter's first wife, Janet Kraft of Tennessee.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. William Hartsfield officiating.

The family will receive their friends one hour prior to the service and at other times at Patricia's residence at 217 E. Spruce St.

In lieu of flowers the family asked to make memorial donations in Mr. Knick's name to Temple Baptist Church at 300 Stratton St., Covington, VA 24426.
