Obituary for William Gleason Bean Jr. William Gleason Bean Jr.
Lexington Native Was Very Active In His Community

William Gleason Bean Jr., 88, of Lexington, Virginia died Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at his home.

Born June 8, 1930 in Lexington, he was a son of the late William Gleason Bean Sr. and Lucy Marsteller Bean.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jesse Coleman Bean.

Bill graduated from Lexington High School and Washington and Lee University. He was the founder and owner of William G. Bean Jr. Insurance Agency, which operated from 1955 to 1990.

Bill was a member of Kappa Alpha Order, active in Alpha Washington and Lee University Chapter of KA Order from 1955 to 1993. He was a member of the Lexington Presbyterian Church, Rockbridge Historical Society, Chamber of Commerce, Knights of Pythias, Southern Arizona Scottish Society and Clan MacBean of North America, member of Rockbridge County Planning Commission from 1969 to 1993, including being chairman from 1978 to 1993, member and chairman of the Rockbridge County Zoning Appeals from 1972 to 1993 and founder and owner of Bean's River Bottom Apartments from 1960 to 1978.

Surviving are his sister-in-law, Lois Bean.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2019 at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery by Dr. William Klein. There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Washington and Lee University, Special Collections Library.
