Retired Hillcrest Hotel Manager Was Virginia Chapel United Methodist Church Member

Sandra Grey Hanson, 66, of Hot Springs, Virginia passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Bath Community Hospital in Hot Springs.

She was born September 5, 1952 in Hot Springs, the daughter of the late James Robert Woodzell, Sr. and Virginia Mae Green Woodzell.

On December 4, 1971 she married William "Bill" Joseph Hanson, her husband of 47 years.

She was retired as the manager of Hillcrest Hotel. Prior to that she worked at the Bath County Farm and Garden.

Sandra was a member of Virginia Chapel United Methodist Church.

She was an advocate for Relay for Life "Butterfly Wishers Team" and was a big supporter of the Doris Via Foundation.

She enjoyed cooking and sitting on the front porch to watch the humming birds. She volunteered for the school any time she was asked and was known for her famous chili! She enjoyed bowling and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Hanson of Hot Springs; two children, Christina Harmon and husband, Dale of Hot Springs, Becky Hanson and special friend, Mark Zuzma of West Point, Virginia; three grandchildren, Wyatt and Kalyn Harmon of Hot Springs, Virginia, Lanie Zuzma of West Point; a brother, Kenny Woodzell and wife, Tessie of Hot Springs; two sisters, Nancy "Cookie" Meadows of Hot Springs, Ellen "Bootsie" Hodge of Hot Springs; two sisters-in-law, Faye McCarty of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Patsy Woodzell of Hot Springs; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald "Buck", James and Jack Woodzell; and a sister, Shirley Stinnett.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Virginia Chapel United Methodist Church. A graveside service will be held immediately following the visitation at Warm Springs Cemetery with Pastor Lorrie Aikens officiating.
