Selma Native Was Epworth United Methodist Church Member

Julia (Judy) Mays Cahoon Fridley, age 83, of 1305 Donovan Street, Selma, Virginia died Saturday, April 6, 2019 at her daughter's home, 921 Salem Road, Spout Spring, Virginia.

She was born October 23, 1935 in Selma to the late Walter William "Ham" Mays and Reba "Duck" Tucker Mays.

She graduated from Central High School in 1953. She was a homemaker throughout her life, and worked at many jobs and retail locations in the Clifton Forge area. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Selma, where she served on many committees and held several offices over the years. She enjoyed driving the school bus for Alleghany County Public Schools and was an honorary member of Selma Volunteer Fire Departments Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as President, Treasurer, Chaplain and many other offices. She was also known to drive one of the fire trucks in parades.

She was devoted to family and friends, especially caring for them in sickness and in their time of need. She loved to crochet, going to auctions and yard sales, camping and all family activities.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Calvin Lee Cahoon, Sr. and second husband, Richard C. Fridley; a brother, Leon Mays; an infant son, William Leslie Cahoon; a brother-in-law Darryl Nelson; and a son-in-law, Frank Torrence.

She is survived by three children, Brenda Wilcher and husband, Steve of Covington, Janice Torrence of Spout Spring and friend, Roger Allen of Stuarts Draft and Calvin "Lee" Cahoon, Jr. and wife, Kim of Selma; two step children, Andra Fridley of Clifton Forge and Ricky Fridley and wife, Karen of Lexington; five grandchildren, Kathy and Jeff Paulette, Keith and April Torrence, Wendy and Matt Dudding, Chris Cahoon and Kevin and Kathryn Cahoon; two step grandchildren, Curtis Fridley and Courtney Drewry; three great grandchildren, Calvin Lee Torrence, Elon Paulette and Carrigan Cahoon; a step great grandson, Xavier Drewry; two sisters, Betty Jo Morris and husband, Clarence of Selma and Jane Nelson of Fawn Grove, PA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to her caregivers of Centra Hospice, Dolly Perez, Kathleen Haynes, Felicia Scott and Dawn Garrett.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Jonathan Greer officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor.

Pallbearers will be Keith Torrence, Chris Cahoon, Kevin Cahoon, Jeff Paulette, Matt Dudding, Jesse Morris, Joey Morris, Elon Paulette and Calvin Lee Torrence.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence, 1305 Donovan Street, Selma, VA.
