Glasgow Native Was White Sulphur Springs Resident

Mary Louise Baker, 87, passed away at Greenbrier Healthcare Center on Saturday, April 27, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Glasgow, Virginia on November 11, 1931 to Robert and Mary Branche.

Mary accepted Christ at an early age. She was raised and baptized in Ebenezer Baptist Church, now Union Baptist Church of Glasgow, VA.

As a devoted Christian, her upbringing led her to transfer her membership to First Baptist Church of White Sulphur Springs, where she served on the Deaconess Board and participated as a member of the church choir. She enjoyed traveling to various churches to perform with the choir and to spread the Gospel through music.

She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Mary graduated from Lylburn Downing High School. Following graduation, she moved to White Sulphur Springs, where she met and married her lifelong mate, Ernest Warren Baker. Warren and Mary celebrated 66 years of marriage on April 6, 2019. To this union, they were blessed with two children, Warren Jr. and Janet.

Mary was employed by the Greenbrier Hotel for over 45 years. Upon retirement, she enjoyed time with family, friends and fellow church members in various activities. She enjoyed family picnics and reunions as well as attending WVU sporting events.

She is survived by her loving children, Warren Jr. (Ann) of Canonsburg, PA; Janet (Frenchie) Watkins of Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren, Brandon and Brianna of Atlanta, GA; and siblings, Roberta Lyle, Robert Branche (Elizabeth), and Charlie Branche (Ella), and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 3, 2019 at First Baptist Church, Church St., White Sulphur Springs from 6-8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Methodist Church, 31 Tressel St., White Sulphur Springs. The burial will take place in Glasgow, Virginia following the repast.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, WV Chapter, 1601 Second Ave., Charleston, WV 25387.
