Obituary for Douglas Lafayet Matheny Douglas Lafayet Matheny
Korean War Veteran Was Columbia Gas Supervisor

Mr. Douglas Lafayet Matheny, age 88, of Covington, Virginia died Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at the Brian Center – Alleghany, Low Moor.

He was the husband of Patricia Whitmer Matheny.

Mr. Matheny was born October 22, 1930 in Waynesboro, the son of the late James Lafayet Matheny and Clara Carter Matheny.

He served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon coming to this area in the 1950's, Mr. Matheny was employed as a supervisor by Columbia Gas Company.

Douglas was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men's Club. He was an avid coin collector.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Matheny is survived by three sons, Douglas Matheny, Jr. of Warrenton, Curtis Hamm of Bowling Greene, KY and Mark Matheny of Warrenton; a daughter, Deborah Leedle of Kansas City, KS; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Matheny was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Wisniewski.

A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Hollenbeck officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be members of Mr. Matheny’s family. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, 1200 N. Alleghany Avenue, Covington, VA 24426. Arrangements are being handled by Loving Funeral Home; www.lovingfuneralhome1913.com.
