Obituary for Thurman S. Wright Thurman S. Wright
Korean War Veteran Was Boy Scout Leader, Burlington Retiree

Thurman S. Wright passed away peacefully at his home in Lexington, Virginia on May 21, 2019, with family, friends, neighbors to be with his Lord and Savior.

He was born November 21, 1928, the son of James S. Wright and Myrtle P. Wright of Buena Vista.

He is survived by his wife of 47 1/2 years, Ethel S. Wright; daughter, Kathy Wright (Ronnie Chittum) of Rockbridge Baths; three sons, Dale Wright of Georgia, Mark Wright (Janet) and Chris Wright (Michelle) of Buena Vista; nine grandchildren, Melanie, Leah, Steven, Mallory, Elizabeth, Dale II, Becca, Zack and Katie Lynn; great-granddaughter, Morgan Lee Craig, and great-grandson, Jackson Horne; and special caregivers, Margie Craig and Debbie Knick.

Thurman served in the U.S. Army (Korean) and was a Boy Scout leader. He retired from Burlington Industries after 37 years, was coordinator and driver for Shenandoah Limo for 10 years, and worked for Lexington Prescription Center and Harrison Funeral Home.

He was an elder and Sunday school teacher at Lauderdale A. R. Presbyterian Church, past commander and treasurer and life paid up member of the American Legion Post 126 Buena Vista, the VFW and the Forty & Eight for 27 years. He was also a member of the Lexington Moose. Thurman proudly served people in all areas of his life to the best of his ability.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 25 at Harrison Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Benjamin Dowling officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 24 at Harrison Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the American Legion Post 126, Buena Vista, or the Lauderdale ARP Church, Lexington.
