Decorated Vietnam War Veteran Was Longtime Police Officer, 32 Degree Mason

Richard Charles Rust, 73, of Lewisburg, West Virginia, loving husband, father and grandfather, died Tuesday, May 21, 2019.

Richard "Rick" was born April 3, 1946, in Grove City, Pennyslvania to the late Clyde and Betty Minner Rust.

Rick proudly served his country as a U. S. Marine, receiving a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart while serving in Vietnam.

He continued public service as a graduate of the West Virginia State Police Academy. He was a Wyoming County Deputy for a few years before becoming the Chief of Police in Oceana, WV.

In 1986, Rick and his wife, Nancy, moved their family to Ft. Pierce, FL. After graduation from the Indian River Police Academy, he served as a Road Patrol Officer briefly before becoming a Detective with the Special Operations Division in the fight against Drugs and Street Crime.

Rick was a 32 degree Mason with Lodge No. 138 in Pineville, WV, and a member of the Beni Kedem Shrine. Rick retired in 2004 and returned to West Virginia, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing more than anything else spending time with his grandchildren, John Wilson (JW), Paul, Courtney, Zachary, Chandler, Byan, Noah, Kaylee, Desting, Jacob, Bryce and great-grandchildren Caiden and Landon.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, John Wilson "Jack" and Paul Rust; also sons, Tyrone and Charles Paul "Chipper" Rust.

Rick, known for his infectious smile and his kind and compassionate ways will be missed by his wife of 43 years, Nancy Harvey Rust and children, Amy Schuder, Abby Callison and Troy Rust; special nieces, Amanda Rust and Ashlie Smith and a host of other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2019 at Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg. The family will receive friends two hours prior to service.
