Selma Native Was Longtime Selma Volunteer Fire Department Member

Thornton (Punk) Taylor Pinckard, age 78, of 2015 Selma-Low Moor Road, Selma, Virginia died Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Alleghany Rehab and Health in Clifton Forge, Virginia.

He was born January 9, 1941 in Selma, Virginia, a son of the late James S. and Annie Eva Pinckard.

He was a member of the congregation of First Christian Church, Covington, and honorary volunteer member of over 50 years of the Selma Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lynda Pearl Hanks Pinckard and a brother, Ledford "Jimmy" Pinckard.

He is survived by his two children:a daughter, Lynda Marie Hicks and her husband, James of Clifton Forge; a son, Jonathan Thornton Pinckard and his partner, John Alexander Cameron of Sydney, Australia; two much-loved grandchildren, Austin Lewis Hicks and Abby Marie Hicks; two sisters, Laura Meadows and her husband, Steve of Cherokee Forest, Virginia, Netsy Waddell of Roanoke, Virginia and a sister-in-law, Janie Pinckard of Selma, Virginia; a number of nieces and nephews; and a number of close friends: Betty Downey, Milton McGrady, and Charlie Masters.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Nicely Funeral Home with Reverend Bill Gilliland officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, and other times at the home of Lynda and James Hicks, 600 Douglas Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia 24422.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in his memory to the any of the Alleghany County Fire and Rescue Services or the Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, P. O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
