Betty Jackson Heighter, 86, of 227 S. Marion Ave., Covington, Virginia died Saturday, June 8, 2019 at her home.

Mrs. Heighter was born May 26, 1933 in Covington, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Virginia Harris Jackson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in November 2018, Lorenzo E. Heighter; a daughter, Katina Heighter; two sisters, Dorothy Ross and Lena Jackson.

Betty retired from the former Alleghany Regional Hospital as a food service worker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church on Lexington Avenue.

Surviving are two daughters, Diane Heighter of Covington and Lisa Simmons and husband, Wayne, of Bristow, VA; a nephew who was like a son, Bert Jackson and wife, Ingrid of Dublin; three grandchildren, Ryan Simmons, Nicole Simmons, and Keyon Hughes (father, Everette Hughes); one great grandchild, Giselle Simmons; Dominic Jackson, Brian Jackson, and Chris Jackson (mother, Aurelia Jackson); a God son, Nathaniel Smith of Covington, ( Nathaniel’s mother) Denise Megginson and a host of nieces and nephews, which include special great nieces, Lola Ross, Essence, Nadia, and Serenti.

The funeral service will be held Thursday June 13, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church on Lexington Ave. with the Rev. Willie Cannon Jr. officiating.

The interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
