Obituary for James Freeman (Buddy) Bowen James Freeman (Buddy) Bowen
World War II Veteran Was Buena Vista Native

James Freeman (Buddy) Bowen, 95, of Archdale, N.C., passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2019.

He was born on October 4, 1923 in Buena Vista to the late Russell and Bessie Finley Bowen.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving in World War II aboard the USS Pickney and USS Providence, and was a member of the DAV.

Buddy enjoyed going to sporting events at Trinity High School and hunting. He also enjoyed teaching and playing golf, and had owned and operated Archdale Driving Range. His true love and passion was the Republican Party and spending time with his family. He was a loving father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather and will be missed dearly.

In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were his wife of 46 years, Rachel Myers Bowen, and seven sisters.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan Jackson; his son, Greg Bowen; his brother, Russell Bowen. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Tabitha Linebach, Ashley Mize, Jimmy Bowen II, Christina Sheppard, and Adam Byerly; his great grandchildren, Caleb, Liam, Cameron, Aidan and Ansley.

A service to celebrate Buddy's life will be held Wednesday morning, June 12 at 11 o'clock in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, with Pastor Roger Carmichael officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Randolph County Honor Guard. His family will receive friends on Wednesday morning, from 10 until 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
