Obituary for Lee Marie Dacus Watson Lee Marie Dacus Watson
Accomplished Artist Was Longtime Lexington Resident

On Saturday, June 1, 2019, Lee Marie Dacus Watson peacefully passed away at the age of 87 in her residence at Kendal of Lexington, Virginia with her husband by her side.

She was born in Spearman, Texas to Leo and Willie Mae Dacus, and attended Eastern New Mexico University, where she and her husband, Duane, met. They lived together in New Mexico, Texas, Panama, Bon Air and Lexington.

Lee is survived by Duane, her husband of 68 years; her son, Don Watson (Shirley); and daughters, Christy Thomas (Eddie) and Lisa Schabenberger (Oliver); her grandchildren, Adam, Laura, Emily, and their spouses; and several nieces and nephews.

She was an accomplished artist, showing her paintings in Richmond and in the Lexington area. In the 1970s, she and Duane were advisers at the Spanish Castle Youth Center in Bon Air, Va. There, she became the confidant and second mother to many young people. Her life is intertwined with so many friends and family that her legacy will be everlasting.

The funeral service for Lee will be Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 2040 McRae Road, Bon Air, Virginia. A reception in the church's parish hall will follow.
